People often ask us where the name Second Earth came from.
When we started Second Earth, our vision was simple. We wanted to create yoga products that were better for both people and the planet. We were passionate about sustainability, but we also wanted our products to help people feel more connected—to themselves, to nature, and to their practice.
As we explored the origins of yoga, we discovered that thousands of years ago many yogis practised barefoot on the earth itself. There was no specialised equipment, no synthetic materials, and no distractions. Just a direct connection between the body and the natural world.
That idea resonated deeply with us.
Today, many people spend most of their time indoors, disconnected from nature. Practices such as walking barefoot on grass, spending time outdoors, and swimming in the ocean are often referred to as "grounding" or "earthing" because they encourage us to reconnect with the natural environment. While research into grounding is still evolving, many people report feeling calmer, more present, and more connected after spending time in nature.
That philosophy became the inspiration for our brand.
We wanted to create a yoga mat that felt like your own little piece of earth—a space where you could slow down, reconnect, and focus on your wellbeing.
And so the name Second Earth was born.
Our very first product, and still our flagship yoga mat today, is the 2E Connected Yoga Mat. Made from natural rubber and sustainably sourced jute, it was designed to bring natural materials back into the yoga experience while delivering the comfort, durability, and performance expected from a modern yoga mat.
The name "Connected" reflects exactly what we hoped to create: a stronger connection between you, your practice, and the natural world around you.
More than anything, Second Earth is a reminder that even in our busy modern lives, we can still create moments to reconnect—with ourselves, with nature, and with what matters most.
